Named in honor of the gifted art director, designer, and letterer whose talents and passion were taken from our community far too soon, the Adé Hogue Scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding BIPOC student who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the creation of letterforms, be they typeface, lettering, calligraphy, or typographic design. Sponsored by Monotype and created in partnership with the Broderick Adé Hogue Foundation, this $5000 USD scholarship expands its eligibility in 2023 to welcome applicants from across the globe, not just the US.

Beatrice Warde Scholarship branding by Marta Cerdà Alimbau

BEATRICE WARDE SCHOLARSHIP

Named in honor of TDC’s first female member, the Beatrice Warde Scholarship recognizes one woman college junior whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication, and aptitude for typography, lettering, type design, or design criticism. Proudly sponsored by Monotype — where Warde worked for more than 40 years — this $5000 USD scholarship has been awarded annually since 2015. This year’s branding, created by graphic designer Marta Cerdà Alimbau, with CGI graphics by Fino Studio, is meant to invoke Warde’s famous 1930 “Crystal Goblet” manifesto, which envisions text as a transparent vessel.
The deadline to apply for all three scholarships is Friday, March 24. We wish all applicants the very best of luck on their creative journeys!
